Over the years since it opened in 1991, it has not taken long for the Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Course to attain celebrity status as one of the best conditioned and challenging layouts in Massachusetts, much less Cape Cod. It is bordered by the Cape's largest sand plain conservation area. When people find out this is a municipally-owned course (by the town of Barnstable), the reaction is almost universal – “I thought it was a private club, it’s that good.” It is the site of the annual Cape Cod Open as well as the Cape Cod Chapter of the New England PGA annual Pro-Senior Championship. Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds was selected as one of the Top-100 Courses in New England by the New England Journal of Golf and one of the Top-50 You Can Play in Massachusetts by Golf Boston Travel & Leisure Magazine.
